• A new building has just been recently finished called Oracle Building. It’s beside FBR building and it has Sizzlin’ Pepper Steaks on the first floor along with soon-to-open Tapa King.
• Music 22. New videoke place in the first floor of Elizabeth Hall. This is where Watson’s used to be.
• Around a year old already I think but still I think it’s worth mentioning as a new addition to Katipunan Avenue: Petron Station with all its new food & dining shops. You’ve got Chowking, Starbucks, Gonuts Donuts, Ineng’s BBQ, a steak place and an Italian place (I’m so forgetful already) and I bet some other somes I failed to mention.
• Also a year old (or more?) is Perspolis, a Persian restaurant on the 2nd floor, on top of World Topps and Bento Box.

Will do more updates on each of these places once I get to take pics… I’ll be happy to receive any comments on this though! Just comment below!

Anyone willing to donate some food???

It has been there forever, as I remember it in my high school (or even grade school?) days. I think it’s one of the long-lasting food establishments there along with Cravings.

They have quite a selection of food ranging from Pinoy to Korean to Italian dishes. They have Asian, Italian and other Western food on the menu. Combo meals and merienda meals for the thrifty student are also on the menu, ranging from P80 to P140.

They’ve got good sinigang and bibingka too.

They’ve also got a Mongolian buffet. Although it seems like the regular buffet, they don’t have the look-through glass screen to see the chefs actually cooking your selection. However, they do have a glass display of all their cakes and pastries. Yum! Try out their mud pie and banana cream pie. They’ve got sylvannas and yema too. They also make their own pan de sal along with several other bakery products.

Price Range: P80 to P280 (for a meal/merienda with drinks per head)

Along Katipunan Avenue, nestled in a small space just at the start of the underpass at Katipunan-Bonny Serrano (formerly Santolan), Wham Burgers shop is an uncanny sight. With its asymettric, pop culture-comics-inspired facade, it would seem out of place with its neighboring buildings and residences. I think this one-story shop is their first branch, before they opened in malls and other high-traffic areas. So far, each time I go there, I enjoy their burgers and fries. Sarap! Good old-fashioned grilled burgers.

Their hotdogs are good too and also reasonably priced.

The spaghetti I’d think twice before ordering again since what we got the first time was too soggy to eat. I’ve read of online reviews of their food in other branches too, which were half bad and half good, but so far no bad reviews of this branch yet.

Here is another cheap and affordable place to eat along Katipunan. They have mostly rice meals that fit the student budget range of P65 – P80 a meal. Their signature dish is the Seafood Rice, an assortment of not only seafood like squid, fish and shrimp but also with some pork mixed in its concoction of fried rice with veggies. They also have the staple Thai dishes like Tom Yum, Pad Thai, Chicken in Pandan leaves and Bagoong Rice. For a budget of P65, they have got a long list of “rice toppings” style of dishes where there is an unusually large amount of rice compared to the meat part or “ulam” as we call it in Filipino. They also have soups and sizzling meals on the menu. We usually order the Bagoong Rice and Seafood Rice.

For several years, Ken Afford has been located at the 3 story-building along Katipunan Avenue, just beside the barangay hall. Only last year it transferred to a new location in the Dormitoryana complex, a dormitory for girls. Nevertheless, people continue to flock to Ken Afford during lunch and dinner specially on school days. Food is mostly Filipino and quite affordable for a student or for anybody on a budget. Prices are higher than fast food prices but it is less than the other restaurants in the area. They also deliver and have an all-you-can eat breakfast promo.
